Data and privacy · beta

What data we handle, and why.

A page written for people who join the waitlist or try the beta. It says what we collect, what it is for, where it is kept and how you can ask us to delete it.

In short

  • For the waitlist we collect name, email and the answers you choose in the form. We use them only to run the beta and write to you.
  • If you are invited, we process the addresses you send to the API in order to return the result.
  • We do not sell data and do not use it for advertising.
  • Returned addresses, map points, outcome and score are suggestions: we take no responsibility for how they are used.
  • Servers are hosted by Hostinger in Germany and the data stays in Europe.
  • You can ask at any time to see, correct or delete your data.

Who is the controller

For the waitlist the data controller is [name of the controller], who runs the viario project in validation. Contact: ciao@viario.io; for requests about your data: privacy@viario.io.

Waitlist: what we collect

When you sign up you give us this data. Only name and email are essential; the rest helps us understand who needs viario.

  • Name and email: to write to you when a place opens.
  • Company or project, role and estimated volume (optional): to decide who to invite first.
  • The reasons you choose from the list and free notes: to understand which problems to solve.
  • The date you signed up and the consent you gave.

Waitlist: why and for how long

We use this data to run the list, choose who to invite, write to you about the beta and understand whether the service is needed. The basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We keep it for the duration of the beta and for [period: to be defined] after it ends, then delete or anonymize it. If you ask to leave the list, we delete it.

During the beta: what we process

If you receive an invitation and use the API, we process:

  • The addresses you send, to return the result.
  • The outcome, point and score we send back.
  • Your access key and technical data such as time, call outcome and IP address, to run the service, protect it from abuse and improve it.
  • When an address contains notes, we may send its text to an artificial intelligence model to separate the notes from the address. [Model provider and data-use terms: to be defined]
  • We do not use your addresses for advertising or share them with others. How long we keep them: [to be defined].

Controller and processor

For the addresses you send to the API, you are normally the controller and we process the data on your behalf. If your addresses relate to people, remember to have a legal basis for sending them to us. [To be confirmed with a lawyer: roles and data processing agreement]

Results are suggestions

The returned address, the map point, the outcome (resolved, to check, not identified) and the score are suggestions. They come from public sources that may be incomplete, out of date or wrong.

The score goes from 0 to 1 and says how closely the returned address matches the one you wrote. It does not guarantee that the address exists, can be delivered to or is the one you meant.

We take no responsibility for the consequences of using the results, such as missed deliveries, costs or decisions made on that basis. Always check when it matters. The beta is a prototype and is offered as is, with no service guarantees.

Where the road database comes from

The road database comes from public sources, not from customer data:

  • ANNCSU, the archive of door numbers and streets (Revenue Agency and ISTAT).
  • ISTAT, for municipalities, localities and codes.
  • OpenStreetMap, ODbL licence: it must be credited.
  • Open data from regions and municipalities, IODL 2.0 licence.

Where the data is and who helps us

The servers that process data (waitlist, API, road database) are hosted by Hostinger in Germany. Everything else stays in Europe.

The viario.io showcase site, which holds no customer data, is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. These providers process data on our behalf:

If data were to leave the European Economic Area, we would do it only with the safeguards the GDPR requires. [To be confirmed]

  • Cloudflare: site, DNS, incoming mail, anti-bot check (Turnstile) and visit counting.
  • Hostinger (Germany): the beta servers.
  • Brevo (France): the emails we send you and the waitlist.
  • Tally: surveys, if you choose to answer.

Cookies and payments

The site uses no tracking cookies or advertising tools. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify people.

During the beta we do not ask for cards or any other payment and we do not issue invoices.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • see the data we hold about you and get a copy;
  • correct or delete it, including by leaving the waitlist;
  • restrict its use or object to the processing;
  • withdraw your consent, without affecting what was done before.
  • Write to privacy@viario.io. You can also complain to the data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante).
Read it all? Then you can join the waitlist.
